The heavy loss suffered by Real Madrid in London against Arsenal in the Champions League forced a change in Carlo Ancelotti's plans. The coach shifted from giving his players a day off to scheduling an afternoon training session on Wednesday at the club's training complex, where he met with the players, reflected on the performance, and began to rally the team.
The crisis at Real Madrid, following two consecutive defeats – one to Valencia in La Liga and another to Arsenal in the Champions League – has complicated their title prospects in both major competitions. As a result, the Italian boss cancelled the planned day off.
Real Madrid players headed to the Valdebebas training complex for a late-afternoon session. The session focused on recovery for those who started in the Emirates Stadium disaster on Tuesday night, with higher-intensity work for Aurelien Tchouameni, who was suspended, Lucas Vazquez, Fran Garcia, Jesus Vallejo, Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Endrick.
Dani Ceballos also participated in part of the session with the ball, drawing his coach's attention as the manager closely monitors his progress, with the aim of having him ready to return next Wednesday for the second leg against Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
For now, Ceballos is working on strength training alone, nearing the end of his recovery from a muscle injury affecting the tendon in his left leg, which he sustained on 26th February. He is gradually regaining fitness and getting a feel for the ball again.
Depending on his progress, Ancelotti will assess the possibility of including him in the squad for the weekend's league match against Alaves. According to reports in Spain, the chances are slim, and the coaching staff even believes he may not be in optimal condition for the second leg against Arsenal.
The Madrid squad is now focusing on their next match, Sunday's visit to Mendizorroza, where they must win to keep their La Liga title hopes alive, with Real Madrid trailing Barcelona by four points.
Following Ancelotti's talk with the players and some self-reflection on the poor display in the Champions League, a renewed determination has emerged in the dressing room, with the team aiming for another historic comeback.
