Racing Santander have closed, after several attempts in the last two seasons, the loan of striker Jon Karrikaburu, from Real Sociedad, until June 30th, a long-awaited wish of the Cantabrian team's sporting management, led by Mikel Martija, who becomes the third addition of the green-and-white team in this summer market after the arrivals of Unai Vencedor and Javi Castro.
Karrikaburu, who played 21 games on loan with Futbol Club Andorra in the last edition of the Spanish second tier, will wear the No 19, according to the club in a statement, and arrives in Santander to join Juan Carlos Arana up front and try to provide a significant number of goals to compensate for the recent departure of Peque from the team, after Sevilla agreed with Racing to pay his termination clause.
Jon Karrikaburu Jaimerena was born in Elizondo (Navarre) on 19th September 2002 and began his football career in the lower ranks of Real Sociedad, rising through the ranks of the 'Txuri-urdin’ team until he made his debut with the first team in 2022. From the 2022/23 season onwards, already playing in La Liga, the attacker has had three loan spells with Club Deportivo Leganes, Deportivo Alaves and Andorra FC.
Last season, with the Spanish side, the player played 21 games in which he played 1,336 minutes and scored three goals. In total, the striker has eight matches in the La Liga, 76 in the Spanish second tier (in which he scored 17 goals), four in the Copa del Rey and five in the Europa League. In addition, he has been an Under-21 international under Luis de la Fuente, making his debut on 3rd September 2021 against Russia and, subsequently, playing against Lithuania, Malta and Slovakia.
