Neymar's emotional return to Santos has taken a significant turn as the Brazilian forward ended his 16-month goal drought in a 3-1 victory against Agua Santa on Sunday.
The 33-year-old, who rejoined his childhood club on a short-term contract after mutually terminating his agreement with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, coolly converted a penalty to open his account since his homecoming.
"I'm happy to be playing again. I feel I'm improving," Neymar stated, acknowledging the gradual nature of his comeback after an injury-plagued spell in Saudi Arabia.
Neymar's presence has already ignited passion among Santos supporters, who gave him a hero's welcome upon his debut earlier this month.
Despite the pressure of expectations, Neymar remains realistic about his progress, saying, "Obviously I'm not going to be 100% physically, it's only my fourth game but I'm getting better and better. I was anxious to score and wanted to dedicate this to the fans and my family.”
The Brazilian's goal also represented his return to the Brazilian football scene, possibly opening the way for a comeback in form before the 2026 World Cup.
