Chelsea captain Reece James has returned to team training after an extended period on the sidelines. The defender suffered an injury during preseason, which caused him to delay his start to the 2024/2025 season. The confirmation came from Chelsea on Monday. "Back in team training," read the post from the Blues' official twitter account, with pictures of the 24-year-old as he made his long-awaited comeback to Cobham Training Ground.
The full back has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons. In the 2023-24 season last year he was only able to register 10 Premier League appearances as a result of his continuous fitness concerns. He also had to sit out on the Euros with England in the summer, after he was also absent from the 2022 World Cup squad due to knee injury in the build-up.
Recent reports claim that Reece James has been assessing to leave Stamford Bridge. The player has reportedly been looking for a move out of the physicality of the Premier League in light of his reoccuring injuries. Benfica and Barcelona were thus indicated as potential destinations, however, such speculations have been dismissed by transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports that James is fully focused on making his return to the pitch for Chelsea.
Chelsea are back to action in the English league this weekend as the international break almost reaches its end. Enzo Maresca's men face league-leaders Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield with the aim to overtake rivals Arsenal and Man City, who currently sit third and second on the table.
