Saudi Arabia delivered one of the biggest surprises of Qatar when they beat Argentina. And even more so because they started off by losing after a Leo Messi penalty in the 10th minute.
It was Herve Renard's job to make Saudi Arabia react. During the break, he got into the dressing room and spoke to his players about what the game was worth.
"What are we doing? Is this how we press? What do you want, to get a photo with Messi?", the Saudi Arabia boss yelled.
Renard demanded them to stop giving too much respect to Messi and that they start stopping him:"You've got to put him under pressure because he has the ball and you just stand and watch... Messi has the goal and you're all there silent, just watching. You've got to press him, push him".
"If you want a photo with Messi, get your phones out. This is the World Cup, you've got to give everything here!" the Saudi Arabia coach ended by saying.
His players understood it perfectly, and after the talk, they came back against Argentina. Al-Shehri and Al-Dawasi made sure Messi's goal was worth nothing.
