Clubs in Europe could breathe a collective sigh of relief following the closure this week of the transfer window in the Saudi Pro League, whose huge spending over the summer was topped only by the English Premier League.
The window shut late Thursday, six days after the market closed in Europe's leading leagues, and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah stayed put at Anfield despite reports that Jeddah club Al-Ittihad had offered £150 million for the Egyptian superstar.
However, the Saudi side had an alternative for his transfer. They were eyeing Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison, according to 'The Telegraph'. Both parties were reportedly in agreement on the move but did not have time to complete the deal.
Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo admitted that Saudi clubs could move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah again in the future.
"Salah is one of the best players on the planet. I've said before, privately and publicly that we welcome anybody that wants to come to the SPL. That includes Salah."
