Rio Ferdinand was very critical of Joao Cancelo on TNT Sports. After Barcelona's elimination from the Champions League, the legendary English centre-back analysed the action that led to Kylian Mbappe's 1-3.
"Silly," the former Manchester United defender began. "Going away from goal, the winger there, there's no need to jump in. That's just a rush of blood, that's just so naive and it's like an inexperienced young player's tackle who's in a panic stations mode. He had the situation so under control, there's no need."
Rio Ferdinand added: "You have to know where you are on the pitch. Defenders have to be on their feet as long as possible and even more so when you're inside the box."
He was not the only one. Peter Crouch also added his voice to the criticism: "I can't believe it, I didn't think he hit him hard. I didn't think he'd hit him hard. How could he even think of diving? It cost his team dearly, there's no doubt about it. It's a penalty, it's not going anywhere."
