Rodrygo set to renew contract with €1 billion clause

Rodrygo Goes will be the next to extend his current contract. Following the renewal of Vinicius Jr announced on Tuesday, Real Madrid have already reached an agreement with the former Santos forward to extend his contract with the Spanish club, despite the fact that he still has a contract until 2025. If the deal is confirmed, the striker will be linked to the club until 30 June 2028.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the striker will have a 1 billion euro buy-out clause, the same clause that his compatriot Vinicius Jr has as of Tuesday. In this way, Madrid have secured what is currently their top two strikers.
Rodrygo signed for the club in the summer of 2018 from Santos. The Spanish giants paid around 45 million euros for the player, who could not join until January 2019, when he came of age. That second half of the season, he played 1,400 minutes in 26 games (seven goals and two assists), as well as playing three games with their academy.
His role was scarce in the following season (two goals and sevent assists in 33 games), but he started to gain weight in the line-ups in the 2021-22 season. He surpassed 2,300 minutes (25 starts in 49 games) and was limited to nine goals and nine assists.
Rodrygo has been winning over the fans with his special love affair with the Champions League. He scored a hat-trick in his second game in the competition (6-1 against Galatasaray), he has 16 goals and seven assists in 42 games and, above all, he scored the brace in the epic comeback (89th and 90th minutes) against Manchester City in May 2022.
Last season, he stopped being a player who alternated between the pitch and the bench. He finished the season with 19 goals and ten assists in 57 games played, of which he started 41, and a total of 3,826 minutes. And this year, his importance for Carlo Ancelotti continues, although he is struggling to score goals so far. He has two goals and one assist in 14 competitive matches.
