In a statement, the organisation said that this recognition was put forward by the city's mayor himself Carlos Moedas, who said the Al Nassr striker was a great Lisbon citizen.
Despite being born in Fuchal, Madeira, Moedas mentioned that "Cristiano's story, often considered the best player in the world, is closely linked to Libson", the city where he arrived as a child to join the Sporting Lisbon ranks.
According to the mayor, "it's an hommage to a boy who became a man in Lisbon and who, as well as his identity in his birthplace, he became a great Lisbon citizen", something which "has never been recognised".
