Mohamed Salah has left the Egypt squad at the Africa Cup of Nations to continue treatment on a hamstring injury at his club Liverpool but Egypt hope he will return to the tournament in Ivory Coast.
However, plans seem to have gone awry for the national team. "Mohamed's injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not two games," agent Ramy Abbas wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit," he added.
Salah salvaged a 2-2 draw with Mozambique from the penalty spot in Egypt's opening game before limping off in the first half of the stalemate against Ghana.
His injury is the latest cruel twist of fate for the player at the AFCON. He has never won the trophy and twice fallen short in the final, to Cameroon in 2017 and Senegal two years ago.
