Spanish striker Pablo Sarabia's transfer (PSG) to Wolverhampton Wanderers has not been completed but is "well underway", said the Parisian club's coach Christophe Galtier on Saturday.
The operation "is not closed but it is well underway," the coach told a press conference ahead of Sunday's league game against Rennes. Sarabia "is a very good player, but he was not happy here," said Galtier, using a verb in the past tense.
Sports daily 'L'Equipe' reports that the deal would be for around five million euros plus bonus for a 31-year-old player who has been included in Spain's squad for Euro 2021 and the 2022 World Cup.
Sarabia, who joined PSG in 2019 from Sevilla, spent last season on loan at Sporting CP looking for playing time, where he managed 21 goals and nine assists in 45 appearances, allowing him to return to the Parisian side with good expectations, which have not been confirmed in the face of the almost inevitable prominence of the Mbappe-Messi-Neymar trio and the emergence of youngsters such as Hugo Ekitike.
Galtier explained that he has discussed Sarabia's situation with the club's sporting director, the Portuguese Luis Campos, and even with the president, Nasser Al Khelaifi. "There is no point in keeping unhappy players in our squad. If he can progress in England, I wish him good luck," said the Paris coach.
