Christopher Nkunku was absent from Chelsea's 4-0 FA Cup third round victory over Preston North End. After the match the Blues boss revealed to the press that the player was not in the game as he was suffering from a hip problem.
"After six months away from the competition it is always tough. Now he wasn’t involved because he suffered some problem in his hip after training yesterday and now we need to check and see if it will be possible for him to be ready for the next few games," Mauricio Pochettino said.
"That is the problem, they need game time to get their best and sometimes we cannot provide this game time to players who need to feel the competition, because in the end we are Chelsea, we need to win. Sometimes it is really tough to explain that to players who feel the pressure to play and perform because they want to help the team," added the Chelsea boss.
The Chelsea striker has made just four appearances for the London side since arriving from RB Leipzig, having suffered a knee injury in pre-season that kept him out of action until just a month ago. This is a major setback for Pochettino's side, who were on the back of a run of consecutive wins and had one of their star players available in attack.
