England coach Gareth Southgate said they have to find a balance in Jude Bellingham's position because he plays as No.9 for Real Madrid, a position he cannot occupy in England.
Southgate announced his squad for England's friendlies against Brazil and Belgium on 23 and 26 March on Thursday and included Bellingham in it. "With regard to Jude, he's clearly playing as a No.9 at Real Madrid, so we need a balance between where he's doing well with something different as well."
In his time with the national team, Bellingham has usually played slightly further back than at Real Madrid, although Southgate did move him forward in some of the recent friendlies, where he performed well.
Doubts over Bellingham's position have returned to the squad due to the absence of one of Southgate's favourite pivots, Kalvin Phillips, who has dropped out of the squad due to his poor form at West Ham United.
With the inclusion of two playmakers in James Maddison and Cole Palmer, Southgate may decide to move Bellingham back for the Wembley friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
