Spanish sports minister announces strong response to Madrid derby incidents
Two days after the incidents that forced the temporary stoppage of the derby between Atlético and Real Madrid, there is still speculation about the consequences this could have for the Rojiblancos and their fans. According to Pilar Alegría, Minister of Education and Sports, the Spanish Government has anticipated that ‘absolutely strong’ measures will be taken.

The Minister of Education and Sports Pilar Alegria assured on Tuesday that the response to the violent incidents that took place last Sunday at the Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid match will be absolutely forceful.
"There is going to be an absolutely forceful response once the details given to us by the security forces and bodies are known," Alegría said at the press conference following the Council of Ministers.
The league match at the Metropolitano stadium had to be temporarily suspended due to the throwing of objects by radical Rojiblancos fans at Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Alegría said the events tarnished "the magnificent image of Spanish football and its fans".
The minister reiterated the condemnation she had already made the day before of incidents that are "totally contrary to the values of sport", as well as the call for "the involvement of federations and clubs" so that these incidents do not happen again.
