Tottenham Hotspur announced on Friday the signing of Lucas Bergvall, who was being targeted by Spanish giants Barcelona. The Swedish gem has signed for Spurs until 2029 and will join Ange Postecoglou's squad in July.
The young player had been spotted in Barcelona days before his signing and was on the verge of joining Xavi Hernandez's side but eventually decided to land in the Premier League.
Bergvall was asked about his decision and revealed that it was a difficult decision to make. “They are both incredible clubs”. It was a very difficult choice, it was 50-50… It felt like the next step for me was Tottenham. It was not very easy to say no to Barca, it took a very long time to decide."
Before making his decision, the Swede reportedly spoke to his now team-mate Dejan Kulusevski. "It wasn't a persuasive talk. He just said the club was great and I noticed that when I got there. We talked a little before. In general, how the club works, how they work, how they train, what the days look like. I got an incredible reception, it's a very family club but incredible people."
New midfield coach Ange Postecoglou also had a few words to say about his new recruit Lucas Bergvall. “It’s great for us that he decided to join us because I think it shows we’re trying to build something here, and that people see us as a good option for themselves.”
