Szymon Marciniak to referee Real Madrid v Bayern Munich

UEFA has announced that Szymon Marciniak will referee the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. In 2011, when he began his career as a referee, he promised that he would officiate in a World Cup final and he delivered.

Experienced Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been appointed by UEFA to officiate Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu with all still to play for after the 2-2 draw in the first leg.
The last time the referee was in charge of a game involving 'Los Blancos' was in the semi-finals against Manchester City last season, when the Spanish side were beaten 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium and eliminated from the competition.
The 43-year-old international referee is one of the most experienced referees in the world and was already in charge of refereeing the last Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City, and the last World Cup in Qatar 2022 between Argentina and France.
The rest of the refereeing team is made up of Polish assistants Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik. The main VAR referee will be Tomasz Kwiatkowski and he will be assisted by Bartosz Frankowski, both also Polish. Slovakia's Ivan Kruzliak completes the team as fourth official.
