The 6 Standout Premier League Transfers of Summer 2024
The Premier League’s summer transfer window can often excite fans, sometimes more so than the football that takes place on the pitch.

We can see some big-money moves take place as clubs look to ready their squads for the campaign ahead. Teams can be prepared to spend a lot to try and achieve the aims and objectives they set for the season's end. For example, it’s not uncommon for teams going for the title or looking to avoid relegation to spend more than those who are looking to establish themselves further or build on a solid season.
As we head into August and with a month or so left of the transfer window, some big moves have already been made. The market is still likely to pick up as teams become rushed by the deadline and find needs with other moves that may take place, but we’ve already seen some outstanding transfers happen this summer...
Having joined from LOSC Lille, Leny Yoro arrives at Manchester United for a reported £52 million fee. The defender was always going to be on the move, but it was thought that he might have ended up at Real Madrid. Instead, he will turn out at Old Trafford for the Red Devils. Expect him to go straight into the defence alongside Lisandro Martinez and/or Harry Maguire, as Eric ten Hag looks to turn his side into a force.
The Red Devils certainly mean business this summer, having added firepower to their ranks and bolstered the defence. Joshua Zirkzee has signed from Bologna for a reported £36.5 million transfer fee. The former Bayern Munich man is likely to be an alternative for Rasmus Hojlund or perhaps a partner for the Dane who continues to find his feet in the EPL.
They may have already started the season as the favorites in the latest Premier League odds. Still, Manchester City’s acquisition of Savinho has only enhanced the likelihood the Cityzens win another title back-to-back. Savinho was exceptional at Girona last season while on loan from Troyes (two clubs owned by the City Football Group) and will now turn out for the parent of the group. The Brazilian winger has everything needed to be a success, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he hit the ground running.
Staying in West London but swapping Craven Cottage for Stamford Bridge, Tosin Adarabioyo’s free switch from Fulham to Chelsea could be shrewd business for the Blues. With Thiago Silva’s departure and a young defence, Tosin could be an impactful signing for Enzo Maresca’s side and one that helps them climb back up the table.
Talking about making an impact at Chelsea immediately, Maresca’s decision to get former player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City makes sense, even if it left some scratching their heads when news first broke. The box-to-box midfielder knows what his coach expects of his players, and how he likes to play. He was the star player of the Foxes last season, and is going to prove very useful for everyone at SW6 in numerous ways.
Arguably one of the bright players of Everton’s season last year, Amadou Onana will now be part of an impressive squad of players under Unai Emery at Villa Park, where he’ll be playing Champions League football. The midfielder, who is thought to have cost £50 million, proved his talents and abilities at Goodison Park and this could be the next step in his career to prove himself at the very best level. It’ll improve The Villans in midfield, especially as Douglas Luiz made the move to Juventus and left a huge void in doing so.
As mentioned, there is still a month or so to go until the August 30 deadline, meaning there can be plenty more deals to go through. Preseason has just started for many clubs in the league, with some transfers having been made with that in mind.
The six mentioned are among the very best to have been made, as they are likely to be the most impactful in various ways. Whether they turn out the way that is intended remains to be seen, and we may have to wait until the end of the 24/25 Premier League season to see just what happens.
