The Barcelona-Juventus match, part of the Soccer Champions Tour in the United States, was suspended nine and a half hours before the scheduled kick-off time. The reason: a bout of illness within the FC Barcelona team.
"FC Barcelona hereby informs that the game against Juventus FC, scheduled for today, July 22nd at 7:30 PM at Levi’s Stadium, as part of the Soccer Champions Tour, has been canceled. A significant part of the Blaugrana squad has a viral gastroenteritis.," reads the official statement.
For the moment, we do not know which players or members of the 'Cules' staff are affected, nor do we know the cause of this bout of illness. It generally causes diarrhoea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and a feeling of unease that can even lead to fever.
"FC Barcelona would like to encourage its fans to attend and enjoy the game we are going to play this Wednesday against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Both teams are in close contact and we both have the utmost confidence that our game will go on as planned," wrote the Catalan giants in another statement on twitter.
