FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Tuesday that the 2025 Club World Cup will be "the start of something historic" that will change football for the better and stressed that the revenue it generates will be invested "in club football around the world".
"We are talking about something never seen before. Next year's FIFA Club World Cup will bring the magic of a national team World Cup to the club level," he told the Ole Sports Summit being held this week in Buenos Aires.
"This tournament will be the beginning of something historic, something that will change our sport for the better and for all future generations who will come to love it as we do," he added.
Infantino further explained that FIFA "will not keep a penny" of the tournament's proceeds, which will be invested "in club football around the world".
Meanwhile, he wished the qualified South American clubs luck and looked forward to the possibility of a confrontation between Argentinian sides Boca and River in the final stages of the competition.
The first edition of the Club World Cup will kick off on Sunday 15 June 2025 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and will conclude on 13 July at the MetLife Stadium in New York New Jersey, the venue that will host the 2026 World Cup final the following year for the United States, Mexico and Canada.
