This week, Rafa Mir was arrested as the starting signal for an investigation into an alleged crime of sexual assault. A girl accuses him of raping her, although there is a statement from the Guardia Civil to which his lawyer refers to prove that there was consensual sexual intercourse with the woman in question. After a few days without speaking out directly, the Valencia striker did so with a statement on his social networks.
"After a period of reflection, I want to make my innocence clear by reiterating the content of the statement issued by my lawyer Jaime Campaner. As soon as he was able to work on equal terms with the accusations, the case has taken an important turn that shows how unfounded the accusation is," began the player, who plays for the Mestalla outfit on loan from Sevilla following an agreement signed this summer.
"I have full confidence in the administration of justice in this country, with which I have collaborated from the first minute to clarify the facts. For all these reasons, I would like to express my most sincere and profound apologies to my club, Valencia CF, to the coaching staff, to my teammates and, above all, to the Valencianista fans for not complying, even on a day off, with the rigorous schedule expected of a professional and even more so after a start to the season that has fallen far short of our expectations," he continued.
"As a professional footballer, all my energies are now focused on helping my club and my teammates. I don't want to forget to thank my family for the love and support they have shown me at all times. Your love and the truth will help me overcome this traumatic situation I am going through. That said, following the advice of my lawyer, we will work in the courts and not in the media or on social media," he closed.
