Fenerbahce's 3-1 defeat against Galatasaray in the heated Istanbul derby was a tough pillow to swallow for manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese coach took over Fenerbahce in the summer, promising to bring the club back to the top of the Turkish Super Lig.
Despite labelling himself as "The Foreign One" when addressing his need to adapt to Turkish football, pressure is mounting for Mourinho, as six games have undergone and Fenerbahce find themselves in the same place they ended last season - behind Galatasaray in second place.
The two Turkish giants faced off on Saturday in a crunch game that saw Mourinho being his typical animated self on the touchline. The manager did not take the defeat well, as he decided to head off without completing his post-match media duties.
His reaction was rather amusing to Galatasaray, who took the vicotry as an opportunity to relentlessly mock Mourinho on social media. The club posted an edited image on their official X account playing on Mourinho's ‘"special one" nickname with a made-up book entitled "the crying one". On their English language account, they posted a photograph depicting a miserable Mourinho on the sidelines alongside grinning Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk with the caption “winning one”. In another one, Galatasaray posted with the caption: "seems like we're cooking a special one tonight."
Following these posts, Jose Mourinho will look to prove his rivals wrong and continue with his attempt to lead Fenerbahce to their first Super Lig title in a decade. The club is back in action on Thursday, hosting Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in opening match in the Europa League.
