Ex-Argentina player Hernan Crespo spoke to 'Relevo' and spoke about Lionel Messi's first steps at his country's national side. What's more, the ex-Chelsea, Inter and AC Milan striker revealed how it was to go up against the star.
"Righ from the first training session. I was with Lionel at the 2006 World Cup and at the Copa America in 2007 and he had just come off the back of tearing up the U20 World Cup in 2005. We went up against him and it was clear to see his high level, he was already different", 'Valdanito' said.
"He was great, great from the start. You'd tackle him and he'd get up and show you who was boss. There was something that made me remember that in the World Cup.... in the game against Poland, Messi got up and showed Lewandowski", Crespo continued.
With that in mind, his ex-teammate complimented him: "He then had the possibility of playing, but he showed him and threatened him, he took him on like back home. That reminded me of a training session during the 2006 Germany World Cup".
"In the training sessions, the more he got tackled, the more he dribbled past. There was even one time when we were stunned into silence and he won the respect of everyone. From then on, haunting the defences, until they said: 'That's it, don't tackle this one anymore", Crespo said.
