Cristiano Ronaldo was in attendance at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the Slovakia-Portugal match, part of the Euro-2024 qualifiers. The Selecao captain touched on a wide range of subjects, from his rivalry with Lionel Messi to his 850 career goals and Saudi Arabia's impact on the transfer window.
But the five-time Ballon d'Or winner did not stop there. When asked about the level of the Saudi league compared to the Portuguese, CR7 gave a blunt assessment:
"The league is not top and will not be, because everyone has an opinion and football debate, controversy. 40 programs... very bad. Portugal in the coming years will not be top, so I don't believe it.," said the 38-year-old.
The Al Nassr player then added: "The Saudi League will surpass the Portuguese and it will be better. The number of top players is greater. Less noise. A bit of a circus in recent times (in Portugal).
