Marcelo said, on Sunday, that “the truth will rise like the sun” in a post on his social networks where he said goodbye to Fluminense after the termination of his contract on Saturday. The former Real Madrid player had posted some stories on his Instagram of teammates and club members saying goodbye to the team, but, so far, he had not expressed himself after Fluminense communicated the termination of “mutual agreement”.
The winger thanked his family for their support, the president and employees of the club, his teammates and the tricolores, referring to the fans, and recalled “unforgettable moments” he experienced at Fluminense, such as the first Copa Libertadores in the team's history. He also recalled that his return was “motivated by a sentimental connection” and clarified that he lived “a magnificent period in this club”.
On Saturday, Fluminense announced the termination of his contract by “mutual agreement” after the former Real Madrid captain argued with the team's coach, Mano Menezes, during the match against Gremio that ended in a 2-2 draw. Menezes, at the post-game press conference, stated that he had “heard something he didn't like”.
Marcelo Vieira, who was formed in Fluminense's youth ranks, had returned to the Carioca club in 2023 after his lengthy spell at Real Madrid, where he held the captaincy in the 2021-2022 season, following the farewell of Sergio Ramos. At Fluminense, he participated in the conquest of the Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Libertadores, both in 2023, and the Recopa in 2024.
