The 2022-23 season is coming to an end. While some teams have already been crowned champions of their respective leagues, many others are still fighting for relegation for the next season.
With only a few matchdays left in the season, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and the Premier League already have their first relegated teams.
In France, three teams already know that they will not continue in the French top flight next season. Angers were the first team in the big five leagues to be relegated.
Ajaccio and Troyes also confirmed their relegation to Ligue 2. With 23 and 22 points respectively, neither have a chance of survival and will have to look for a return to the top flight next season.
In Spain, Elche also failed to live up to expectations and were relegated on matchday 33, when they lost 2-1 to Almeria. With just 19 points in the standings, they will play in the second division from 2023-24.
The other two places at the bottom will be decided in the last few rounds, as all teams are still in with a chance of staying. At the moment, Valladolid and Espanyol would be relegated.
In Italy, Sampdoria became the first team to be relegated to Serie B. Dejan Stankovic's team had a season to forget. Meanwhile, Cremonese were relegated on Sunday following a goalless draw between Lecce and Spezia. The 'Grigiorrossi' could only last one year in Serie A and will have to start the 2023-24 season in the second division.
In Germany, Hertha BSC were relegated after a 1-1 draw with Bochum. A goal from Lucas Tousart kept the Berliners alive, but a 94th minute strike sealed the first relegation in the Bundesliga. On the final matchday, Schalke 04 confirmed their relegation with a 4-2 defeat to Bochum.
