“This can't happen on a football pitch"

Atletico Madrid captain Koke Resurreccion said on Sunday, after the 1-1 draw in the derby against Real Madrid and the temporary suspension in the 69th minute due to the throwing of objects from the stands of the Metropolitano to Thibaut Courtois, that “this cannot happen on a football pitch” and pointed out that they are “professionals” and have to “be smart”.
“It has been a moment of great tension. This can't happen on a football pitch. We are professionals and we have to know where we are and be intelligent, but for four people we cannot prejudice all our people. Hopefully it won't happen again. We also as players have to be smarter,” he told ‘DAZN’.
When the referee, Busquets Ferrer, decreed the temporary suspension of the match, the players “were waiting to see what would happen”. “We've been talking to the captains with the referees. The protocol said that if the same incident happened again, the game would be stopped again,” he added.
On the sporting side, Atletico equalised in the 95th minute through Angel Correa. “In the second half, when the game opened up, there was an enormous intensity. At the beginning, there was a lot of respect between the two teams, especially in the first half, but then the game opened up more, with a lot of intensity. We both wanted to win and in the end we got the equaliser,” he said.
“We always go out to win and even more so in a derby. We wanted the three points and we couldn't get them. The image of the second half, especially with 20 minutes to go, that we went for the game, pressing high, playing and pressing hard, I liked the team and I think the fans did too,” he said.
