As European football gets back underway after the World Cup, there are plenty of talking points to discuss heading into the second half the season.

From Napoli’s winning run in the Serie A, looking to win their first title since Diego Maradona’s class of 1990, to Paris Saint Germain trying to land a maiden Champions League title, and closer to home Manchester City dreaming of a third successive Premier League, there’s plenty to play for across the continent.
While the teams at the top tend to dominate the headlines, there are others that have seemed to fly under the radar this season. Whether they’re punching above their weight or perhaps conducted some savvy transfer business that has gone unrecognised, there are a few teams worth keeping an eye on in the football betting odds as European football resumes.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at three of the most underrated teams in European football this season. Read on to find out more.
Let’s start over in Portugal, and when you consider how challenging Benfica’s Champions League group was, you have to give them credit for the position they currently find themselves in. Qualifying with PSG after knocking out Juventus, the 37-time Primeira Liga champions face Scott Parker’s Club Brugge in the round of 16, and come in as favourites to reach the last eight for the second season running.
Despite losing Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, Roger Schmidt’s recruitment has been fantastic, bringing in World Cup Young Player of the Year winner Enzo Fernandez from River Plate during the summer, while Goncalo Ramos put his name in lights for Portugal with his hattrick that kept Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench. A talented and youthful side, Benfica are certainly a great watch for the second half of the season.
Considering they were only promoted back to the Premier League at the start of the season, Fulham are proving they finally have the consistency to stay afloat in England’s top flight, and find themselves in the dizzying heights of the top eight at the halfway point in the season. Marco Silva has his side playing a continental style of football, spearheaded by talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic. The former Newcastle United man is finally showing the maturity he missed in his early Premier League years, and after 44 goals in the second tier the Serbian has continued his scoring mantra amongst the best defenders in the world. Could we see the Cottagers make an ambitious ploy for Europe?
Speaking of European football, if Freiburg remain consist this season they could find themselves in the top four of the Bundesliga as well as the Champions League. After losing the DFB Pokal final last season, they carried on that good form and currently sit second in the table at the time of writing. They were only promoted to the top flight back in 2016 but now have one of the best defences in the league led by Matias Ginter, shipping just 17 goals, with Christian Streich one of the most tactically astute managers in Europe. You wonder if the side has a lifespan though, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund likely to come calling for star players Ritsu Doan and Vincenzo Grifo.
