It seems Christopher Nkunku has failed to put the curse of injury behind him. The striker left RB Leipzig to try his luck in England with Chelsea but a knee injury in pre-season against Dortmund kept the Frenchman out for up to five months.
However, shortly after returning to action the France international suffered another unexpected injury against Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, in which the Reds claimed victory over the Blues thanks to a late extra-time goal from Virgil Van Dijk.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the French striker's injury at the press conference ahead of the FA Cup last-16 clash with Leeds United. "We need to see and evaluate every day, but he's out for three or four weeks. We hope no more…"
"It’s difficult for him. We watched him when he arrived in pre-season. He was flying in training until he got injured. Now it is nearly eight months and he has been involved again but he’s not yet the same player as before. We have in our head the amazing Nkunku from pre-season but he’s not the same because of the circumstances. That’s why it is sometimes unfair to judge," he concluded.
