The MRI scan that Dani Carvajal underwent on Friday morning confirmed his absence from Real Madrid's derby against Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday due to a muscle injury which, according to sources at the club, will keep the full-back out for around 10 days.
Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti were waiting for the news and it has been confirmed by the medical tests Carvajal has undergone. Although from the first moment of the injury, after La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Sunday 17th September, it was ruled out that the muscle injury was of an important degree, the MRI confirms a minor injury that forces the Madrid defender to stop.
Carvajal has already missed Real Madrid's Champions League opener against Union Berlin and is out for the Madrid derby and La Liga clash against UD Las Palmas. The player's objective is to return on 30th September for the visit to Girona.
Real Madrid have yet to issue a medical report or announce the extent of the injury to Carvajal, who had reduced the number of muscle injuries thanks to a change in his diet over the past year. His most recent spell on the sidelines was in January 2023, which began with muscle discomfort that saw him miss the Copa del Rey opener and a La Liga game, before playing in the Spanish Super Cup and suffering a muscle injury after the final against Barcelona.
Carlo Ancelotti adds Carvajal's absence to a defence that has already lost Brazilian Eder Militao for much of the season and will have to look for solutions at right-back. His first choice in the Champions League was Lucas Vazquez, who is competing with Nacho Fernandez for the starting line-up in the Madrid derby.
