TV pundit Burgos leaves 'Movistar' after 'classist' comment about Yamal

The former goalkeeper and current coach, who has worked as assistant to Cholo Simeone at Atletico Madrid and as head strategist at both Newell's Old Boys and Aris Thessaloniki, has parted ways with the broadcaster after his controversial comment about Lamine Yamal.
As the Barcelona youth product was kicking the ball around in the build-up to the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, the former goalkeeper joked that if he wasn't so good at football, he would have ended up at traffic lights. The other members of the programme laughed, but after a while, when they learned that the two clubs had decided not to give statements on the pitch in retaliation, they changed their tone.
According to the Spanish daily 'El Pais', one of the most important newspapers in Spain, the board has decided to sack him. However, 'Relevo' reports that it was he himself who, on Thursday morning, contacted his bosses to tell them that the best thing to do was to step aside. The generalist daily even quotes a follow-up statement to that of Wednesday night, when the retired goalkeeper's statements were condemned.
"In compliance with the internal code of conduct of 'Movistar Plus+', which includes a zero tolerance policy for any discriminatory behaviour, the platform has taken measures following the episode in which one of its collaborators made inappropriate comments about the player Lamine Yamal. 'Movistar Plus+' and German 'El Mono' Burgos will immediately stop collaborating in the platform's programmes and the pundits of the programme where these comments were made will be warned," reads the text reproduced by 'El Pais'.
