Valencia fans sentenced to eight months in jail for racist abuse of Vinicius
The Valencia Court has imposed an eight-month prison sentence for the three identified spectators who hurled racist insults at Vinicius at Mestalla on 21 May 2023.

For the first time in history, there is a prison sentence for people who have insulted a player in a racist manner on a football pitch. It has been in Valencia, after the insults that Vinicius received in Real Madrid's clash against Valencia on 21 May 2023.
According to ‘Cadena SER’, the Valencia Court has imposed a sentence of eight months in prison to the three spectators who were identified as perpetrators of racist insults to Vinicius Jr for crimes against moral integrity.
Moreover, the three defendants will also be banned from entering a football stadium in Spain for the next two years, as well as paying the costs of the legal proceedings.
The sentence, according to La Liga in a statement, amounted to 12 months' imprisonment but was reduced by a third “on the grounds of conformity at the preliminary investigation stage”.
