There seems to be no end to the injury curse at Manchester United this season. The Red Devils have been hampered by the absence of key players who have been forced off the field throughout the campaign and have suffered a number of defensive absentees recently.
The Mancunians went into the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which they lost dramatically in stoppage time after two Cole Palmer goals, with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia missing in defence.
However, the Red Devils got a defensive boost ahead of the game against the Blues with the return of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, although the joy was short-lived. The former Real Madrid centre-back had to be replaced by the England centre-back in the second half after picking up an injury, and just 20 minutes in it was the England centre-back who also had to be replaced by Kambwala through injury.
Dutch coach Erik ten Hag spoke about the injuries to both defenders and said he did not know if they would be available for their big game against Liverpool on Sunday. "[Raphael] Varane, [Jonny] Evans, Also Casemiro we have to take off. That doesn't help. You need these types to show leadership and what to do," he said.
"I don't know if they will play on Sunday. The team will be there on Sunday. They have character. They showed it today, fighting ourselves into the game," Ten Hag told reporters.
