Raphael Varane, who announced his retirement on 25 September, will join the board of Como 1907, which is coached by Cesc Fabregas, and will carry out work related to the development of the club's young talent.
"Raphael Varane joins the board of Como 1907 in a consultancy role for youth development, education and innovation," Como said in an official statement on Saturday.
Varane was barely able to play any minutes under Fabregas because of an injury in August that led to his decision to quit professional football. Now, the former Madrid player is not moving away from the Italian city and will work on development projects for Como's youth sector beyond football, including with an academic orientation.
"By integrating academic training, leadership development and professional growth into youth programmes, Varane aims to help young athletes prepare for life beyond football," explained Como.
"He will advise on Como 1907's product development strategy, from enhancing digital solutions to improving data analytics platforms and ticketing systems. He will help drive the club through the process of evolving operational systems and improving fan engagement," the club added.
