German manager Jurgen Klopp, who announced in January he was leaving the club, has forged a strong bond with the Anfield faithful, who gave him a rousing welcome as he emerged from the famous tunnel.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Premier League champions Manchester City, paid a warm tribute to his long-time rival, saying Klopp deserved to be ranked alongside such outstanding Liverpool bosses as Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.
"I will miss him a lot. Jurgen has been a really important part of my life. He's taken me to another level as a manager. I think we respect each other incredibly. I have the feeling that he will be back.
"I just want to say thank you so much for his words. But he knows perfectly that behind me there are a lot of things that this club provides and gives to me," Guardiola told reporters.
