Rayados of Monterrey beat Inter 2-1 in Miami on Wednesday, missing an injured Leo Messi for yet another night as the Mexicans came from behind to overturn an early goal in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final.

Tomas Aviles opened the scoring when Inter Miami, without Messi but with Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in the starting line-up, were at their worst. But Rayados managed to overcome the deficit and improved in the second half, putting the extra man after David Ruiz's dismissal to good effect with goals.

Rayados equalised after a terrible mistake by Busquets in defending a corner kick. The former Azulgrana player headed against his own goal, forcing Callender to parry the ball. The rebound fell to Meza, who only had to tap it in. Seconds before stoppage time, Jorge 'Corcho' Rodriguez fired the ball into the top corner of the net with a fierce long-range shot that made Callender's great dive useless.
