Racism is a scourge that is unfortunately still rife in the world of football today, as has been demonstrated in disgusting episodes in Europe's top leagues.
The latest to be racially abused was Mike Maignan. The AC Milan goalkeeper was subjected to racist chants from Udinese fans, until he decided not to take it any more and the referee stopped the game and even the players returned to the dressing room. After a few minutes the match was restarted but the referee threatened that if the racist insults continued the match would be suspended.
This despicable act did not take long to become front page news in almost every country, provoking a large number of messages of support from different clubs and fans towards the French goalkeeper, who issued a statement on his social networks advocating to end the scourge of racism and fight against it. The former Lille goalkeeper also spoke after the match and gave some words similar to the ones he later posted on social media. Check it out.
