There have been several players who have swapped the Blues for the 'Merengues'. It seems that between the Chelsea and Real Madrid boards there is a good understanding and most of the time when they negotiate the transfer of a player they reach an agreement.
This was the case with Arjen Robben in 2007, the Dutch winger left Stamford Bridge for Santiago Bernabeu, although his time with Madrid was not very successful and he left for Bayern in 2009. Then in 2010 Blues defender Ricardo Carvalho joined Real Madrid, ending a six-year spell at the English club, although he only spent three seasons with the Spanish club.
Michael Essien spent nine seasons playing for the London club, although between the ninth and ninth he played for 'Los Blancos' during the 2021/2013 season. Five years later came the most successful signing between Chelsea and Madrid, namely the arrival of Thibaut Courtois at the 14-time Champions League winner. The Belgian goalkeeper has become one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the Spanish club.
However, just a year later the opposite happened, the 'Merengues' agreed with Chelsea the worst signing in their history. Eden Hazard joined the club presided over by Florentino Perez for 115 million euros and never made the grade. And finally, we have the last two Blues to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who will team up once again, but this time in the Spanish capital.
