Undoubtedly one of the worst feelings for a footballer is to be warming up for the whole game thinking that you are going to replace someone and then not doing so. However, it is even worse when a coach ever decides to bring in a player in the dying minutes of a game.
This is what happened with Ivan Toney, who replaced Phil Foden with just a minute left to play in England's momentary defeat, which Jude Bellingham managed to prevent with a last-gasp equaliser. Things went well for the Brentford player, though, as he set up Harry Kane just before the start of extra time.
Southgate admitted at a press conference after the Three Lions qualified for the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 about Toney's substitution and said the striker was annoyed with him, although the England striker laughed it off when asked about it. Check out what he had to say.
