French midfielder Etienne Capoue will leave Villarreal on 30th June, when his current contract expires and will not be renewed by the club.
Capoue joins goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who was the first of the veteran players to finish his contract and who will not continue at Villarreal next season.
The 35-year-old French midfielder arrived at Villarreal in the winter transfer window of the 20-21 season as an emergency reinforcement after Vicente Iborra's serious injury. In three and a half seasons at the Castellon club, he made a total of 148 official appearances in which he scored 12 goals.
Capoue was a very important player in the team's first two seasons and a key player in winning the Europa League title in 2021. With the arrival of Quique Setien to the Villarreal bench midway through the 22-23 season, Capoue dropped down the pecking order and now Villarreal have decided to end the Frenchman's time at the club.
