Vinicius Jr, striker for Real Madrid, came out in defense of former French international Benjamin Mendy, who was cleared of sexual assualt charges on Friday in Chester (UK).
"I'm sorry for everything you’ve been through, Benjamin Mendy.", began his tweet. "You lost two years of your career, but that's the least of this whole situation… What about the psychological damage? Surely your life will never be the same".
"Being responsible would be the minimum for any professional, but nowadays serious work has become an exception. There’s no limits to get more clicks and engagement", continued the message. He finished on the open question: "My question is what will be done to repair the damage?"
Mendy was first arrested in November 2020, and he played for Man City at the time. The club stopped paying him just under a year later, after he was charged with the offences, and although he has been acquitted, his contract with the Cityzens expired at the end of June.
