A section of Atletico fans chanted racist slogans towards Vinicius Jr, calling him a "chimpanzee", as they greeted the Atletico bus for their Champions League last-16 second leg against Inter.
A video posted on social media gave an account of the disrespect to the Real Madrid player, who reacted when he saw what had happened and went straight to UEFA.
"I hope you have already thought about their punishment, UEFA. It's a sad reality that even happens in games where I'm not present," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Vinicius has for some time led the anti-racist fight in the world of football. His constant presence in the spotlight has been tainted by moments in which he has been insulted because of his skin colour and others in which, without any foul of this type, he has confronted some of his opponents in controversies for which even his own coach has reprimanded him.
