Racism is a scourge that is still internalised in some sectors of the world's population. In terms of football, Madrid's Vinicius Jr. is a player who does not stop getting racially abused on the football pitches where he plays.
The Brazilian, winner of the Socrates award for his humanitarian work, published a video on his social profiles on Tuesday in which he announced that he will continue his fight against racism and discrimination and his new role within the United Nations.
The Real Madrid player wants sport to be free of racism and discrimination and to be inclusive. Vinicius also called for unity from everyone in order to put an end once and for all to this scourge that continues to harm thousands of people.
"For me, this specific year has been a stark reminder that we still have a long journey ahead to eliminate bigotry from sports and society. I believe that anti-racism education must be at the heart of our efforts to advance equality and human rights everywhere. That’s why I’m very happy to announce my new role as United Nations #HumanRights Champion. A role that I’ll take on with pride, excitement and responsibility. Let's make sports a true model of inclusivity, free of racism & discrimination. It's our moment to stand united"
