FIFA has decided to act after the racist attack on Vinicius at Mestalla. Gianni Infantino held a meeting with the player and the Brazilian national team before taking a decision on the matter.
The president of world football's governing body himself determined that a new anti-racism committee will be set up, with the Real Madrid player as its leader. It will be made up of players, who will propose tougher punishments for discriminatory behaviour.
"There will be no more football with racism. Matches must be stopped immediately when it happens. Enough is enough," Infantino began, as reported by Reuters.
Furthermore, the FIFA president himself explained why he chose Vinicius: "I asked him to lead this group of players who will come up with stricter punishments against racism, which will then be implemented by all football authorities around the world. We have to listen to the players and what they need to work in a safer atmosphere. We take it very seriously.
"We will apply very strong punishments to put an end once and for all to the problem of racism in football. We can no longer tolerate racism. As FIFA president, I think I had to talk to Vinicius personally about it.
