"We could have scored three or four goals in the first half"
Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez spoke to the press after the defeat against Lille in Champions League matchday 3. The Argentinian did not approach the referee for an explanation about the controversial penalty against him, but he did say that, with the performance of the ‘Colchoneros’ during the first half, they should have scored between three or four goals to put the game away.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez lamented after the defeat in the Champions League against Lille (1-3), the lack of effectiveness of his team, who, in the first half, could have "scored three or four goals" and assessed, on the action of the penalty, that, "first, it is a handball" by Aissa Mandi.
"I didn't approach the referee to see what explanation he gave. Afterwards, I saw the video and it looked like a handball by the Lille player and then I don't know if Koke brushed him or not. But, first of all, it is a handball. Besides, he should see it right, I think," he said in the mixed zone at the Metropolitano stadium.
"We created a lot of chances, we couldn't convert them, we lacked effectiveness and then, in this competition, the opponents have hierarchy and we paid dearly for it in the second half," said the striker. Julian Alvarez is concerned about the lack of cutting edge, but more in the case of "not having the chances". "The good thing is that the team generated them. After that, we have to work on our effectiveness and try to put them away. In the first half, we could have scored three or four goals,’ he said.
"By not scoring, then they had a situation with the goal that bounced off a player of ours; then the controversial penalty.... We couldn't hit when we had to," continued Julian Alvarez, who noted: ’The team didn't play a bad game. That's how it happened. We're sad to have lost, but we have to keep working.
Atletico have taken just three out of nine points in the Champions League. "Obviously, it's not what we wanted, especially in this game here at home. There are five games left, we still have to keep working to improve the things we are doing wrong and try to get three points from three," he said.
