Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone summed up the 4-0 defeat against Benfica in the Champions League in that his team played “badly”, ruled out that there was a lack of “attitude” and considered that his rival “forcefully” took advantage of all the mistakes made by the 'Colchoneros' during the match.
“We played badly. Accept that there are days when we play badly. We didn't play well, the changes didn't give us the chance to change the match, accept that we played badly, we lost, they beat us well, they were better and congratulate them,” he said at a press conference at the Luz de Lisboa stadium.
“For me there was no lack of tension, attitude or desire to run. We played badly. When you play badly, these situations appear and are mistaken for a lack of attitude. The opponent took advantage of everything we allowed them to do and we saw a bad game,” he added.
“Congratulations to Benfica. They played a very good game, they took advantage of all the mistakes we could make and they were very forceful and deserved to win without a doubt,” he concluded.
