"We have the same stakes as Madrid, it's a knock-out tie"

Diego Pablo Simeone spoke to the media ahead of the Real Madrid-Atletico Copa quarter-final. The coach said that both teams have a lot at stake, as one of the two will be eliminated from the tournament. On Vinicius, he said he is not bothered by Ancelotti saying he must be protected.

This Thursday, Atletico or Real Madrid will be eliminated from the Copa del Rey. Everything will depend on what happens in the quarter-finals clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Before the game, Cholo spoke to the media. He was asked which of the two teams he thinks has more at stake and he said both equally.
"It's a knockout tie, we're both playing for the same thing. We're going to play a game against a great team and with a coach I admire a lot, Ancelotti," Simeone said.
He was asked if he has an "extraordinary" relationship with the Real Madrid manager and said that term seems "excessive" to him. "I have a very good relationship with Ancelotti, I think he is a very good person," he said.
Asked if they will try to take Vinicius out of the game, he said he is concerned about the team itself and not just one player: "We think about the whole of Madrid, they have many players and we will do everything we can to respond to their game with our weapons".
Ancelotti said that "Vinicius must be protected" and Simeone maintained that he was not bothered by the Italian's statement. The 'Colchoneros' coach did not want to get into controversy.
For the Argentine, this Atletico is better than before the World Cup. "I see them better after the break, with a lot of offensive possibilities. The group is committed and excited," he said.
Simeone refused to give any clues about the game he will play. "If I tell them, they'll find out," he said with a smile on his lips. "We have to play an important game because when Madrid compete, they do it very well," he limited himself to saying. "I'm more concerned that we can play a good game because we've prepared for it. Then it's football and a lot of things can happen...", he closed.
