Oliver Kahn revealed that, before City took Erling Haaland to the Etihad Stadium, Bayern tried to sign him. However, his high salary made Bayern pull the brakes. "We had to decide whether or not to break our wage structure, but Bayern are not like that," said the club's general manager.

Erling Haaland thought long and hard about which team to go to after Borussia. According to 'The Times', he rated from 0 to 10 the teams bidding for him such as Madrid, Bayern or Barca. He took into account competitiveness, stadium capacity and the team's need for a striker like him. In the end, he chose the Sky Blues.
Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn admitted, in case anyone had any doubts, that his club were among those interested in the Norwegian before City won the deal. "We tried everything to sign Erling Haaland a year ago and we reached our financial limits," he was quoted as saying by 'Bild'.
"We had to decide whether or not to break our wage structure. We were not prepared for it, Bayern are not like that," he said.
The Munich club did not want to offer him a higher salary than the other players and, in the end, the opportunity for Haaland to replace Robert Lewandowski slipped away.
