Julen Lopetegui's West Ham United did not start the Premier League in the best of ways. They were beaten by Unai Emery's Aston Villa at London's Olympic Stadium in a letter of introduction that, although it cannot be interpreted as deeply negative because it was a head-to-head with a Champions League-qualified opponent and therefore superior in principle, points to the fact that there is still work to be done to put the pieces together.
This is another matter: the transfer market has been very busy on the banks of the Thames and promises more. Fabrizio Romano, on Tuesday afternoon, reported that his board have been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain to explore the possible signing of Carlos Soler. The former Valencia man is approaching 30 years of age and Luis Enrique's side have been opting for talent under the age of 20 of late.
That is why the move seems possible, especially when the Parc des Princes offices should have on their list of priorities to comply with the Financial Fair Play. Two seasons ago, they paid Mestalla €18 million to land the Spaniard, who is under contract until 30th June 2027, so this could be the ideal opportunity to make up for what they invested in his arrival and his salary.
In the first Ligue 1 game, although he was in PSG's squad against Le Havre, he did not take to the pitch for a single minute. Last season, he made 14 of the 28 starts he was involved in in total. It was a downturn in his minutes after Christophe Galtier's tenure, with his sporting horizon not looking the best and, at West Ham, he may be a personal request from Julen Lopetegui.
