Paris Saint-Germain announced on Friday the signing of Ecuador international Willian Pacho, the first player of that nationality in the history of the French club, who arrives from Eintracht in Germany on a contract until 2029.
PSG president Nasser Al Khlelaifi said in a statement that he was delighted with the arrival of "a fantastic young international player" and "a great talent".
Pacho said he was "very happy" to be part of the squad coached by Spaniard Luis Enrique Martínez, to which he said he hopes to bring his "personality" and also "show" all his "determination to win many trophies".
The 22-year-old centre-back, who will wear the number 51 shirt for his new club, was born in Quininde and spent his youth development in his home country, specifically at Independiente del Valle, which he joined in 2017 when he was 16.
With that club, he won the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores U20 in 2019, made his debut in Ecuador's top-flight Serie A in September 2019 and won his country's championship in 2021.
In January 2022, he moved to Europe, first to Antwerp in Belgium, where he made 53 appearances and won the league and cup titles in the same season. The following year, he was signed by Eintracht Frankfurt, for whom he made 44 appearances last season.
Pacho was selected for the first time for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, although he made his international debut on 28 March 2023 in a friendly match against Australia in which he scored a goal that contributed to his team's 2-1 victory.
He was part of the 'Tricolor' that played in the Copa America, has played 16 games with the national shirt and has scored two goals.
