Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez praised the signings of Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez, but believes the team must strengthen further if they are to challenge for everything next season.
"We are still missing pieces; we need to strengthen a little more. But we are doing a good job and we will try to have the most competitive team possible to fight for all the titles," he said on Thursday during the presentation of the Campus Xavi by Santander, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, at the headquarters of Banco Santander in Barcelona.
Xavi admitted that he would like to strengthen the right-back position, as well as sign a defensive midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets, his main concern.
"We have a lot of options in the defensive midfielder position, but they are not natural. Eric (Garcia) and Frenkie (De Jong) have played there, but I think we need to strengthen well in that position," insisted the Catalan coach, who did not hide the fact that the club are "in a complicated situation".
"Right now, we don't have the privilege of being able to sign whoever we want. Above all, we have to look at home and prioritise the youth academy. It's going to be a long market, until 31st August. And we are going to see how far the Financial Fair Play goes and how far we can go," he confessed.
